Admittedly, there are more than a few episodes where dramatic licence comes into play, and some may even see it as religious propaganda, but most will recognise it as an astonishing animated achievement, particularly for a studio still in its infancy. Find out where to watch, buy, and rent The Prince of Egypt online on Moviefone. The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 American animated musical drama film produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by DreamWorks Pictures. The first feature film from DreamWorks to be traditionally animated, it is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to his ultimate destiny to lead the Jews out of Egypt. A cast of Hollywood heavyweights - including Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock and Jeff Goldblum - provide emotive vocal contributions, enhanced by Stephen Schwartz's stirring, Broadway-style songs (the moving When You Believe - sung by Pfeiffer herself in the film - won an Oscar). Born into slavery but raised as the son of a pharaoh, Moses accepts his destiny: to lead the Hebrews out of slavery and into freedom. From its magical opening sequence, showing the baby Moses's journey down the river, to the visually stunning sections involving the parting of the Red Sea and the plagues - the curse on the first born is particularly disturbing - this makes for epic cinema. Unfortunately, perhaps because it is animated, many people tend to see the film, starring Val Kilmer as Moses and Ralph Fiennes as Ramesses II, as less serious.

The 1998 animated film about biblical character Moses is now streaming on Netflix. This rousing animated interpretation of the story of Moses from the DreamWorks production team has a visual grandeur that's almost a match for the best of Disney (perhaps not surprising considering executive producer Jeffrey Katzenberg was the man responsible for the look of Disney's animated features during the early 1990s). You can now rewatch the classic 'The Prince of Egypt' to your hearts content.
